Kitaco starts 2025 with a Best in Show!

Scotty, Tracey and Judge Carrie Tolley - Best in Show & Stellar, Debra and Judge, Jorga Dixon - Best on Parade

We had our annual New Year’s specialty Chihuahua Club Open Show and Ribbon Parade with the Dominion Chihuahua Club on the 2nd January.

The weather has been awful in Christchurch, lately, so it was lovely to get a perfect, sunny day so we could hold the show outside. (Thanks to Caretaker Ray from CKA for mowing the grass down really short for the Chiwis).

One of the fun things about these shows as we bring out all our Kitaco kids, including those living in their pet and guardian homes, so we had lots of Kitaco puppers entered, and got to have a great day hanging out with our wider Kitaco family.

In the Open Show, under NZ judge, Carrie Tolley, Little Scotty was awarded Best in Show and Best Puppy in Show. Ava took Reserve in Show and Open in Show, Little Dean, in his very first show, took Best Baby Puppy in Show, Serena took Best Junior in Show, Stellar, back from a big break (thanks to Debra’s hard work) won Best Intermediate in Show, Ben took Best NZ Bred in Show and Narci took Best Veteran in Show, so it was a clean sweep for Kitaco, which is absolutely amazing.

We then followed up the Ribbon Parade under judge, Jorga Dixon. She awarded Stellar, Best on Parade and Open on Parade, Scotty won Best Reserve on Parade and Best Puppy on Parade and Dean won Best Baby Puppy on Parade.

Such a fun day. Special thanks to Kathy Morton for her excellent stewarding, and Committee Members Katie O’Neill and Debra Barltrop for doing such a wonderful job on the catering and organising for the ribbon parade.

Finally, a shout out and huge thanks to my nephew, Dace, who comes along to the Club shows with us every time. He does all the heavy lifting, brings his own car loaded up with club equipment, schlepps pens and trolleys and boxes around for us, and then helps us pack everything up at the end of the show.

We really couldn’t do these shows with so many dogs entered without Dace. Not only that, all our dogs adore him. We can hand him any dog in the show team, from Narci down to little Dean, and they will follow him anywhere. Such a gift to have a handler with such a connection to the dogs around, when you have so many dogs entered in a show. Such a same he hates dog showing, and does this out of love for us (and the occasional bribe, LOL), rather than the sport.

Even so, everyone should be so blessed to have a Dace in their lives. And in their Show Team.
